Building Strength Through Welding: Kristina Harris’s Story

Before Kristina Harris became known online as “Stilettos and Steel Toes,” she was inspired by the precise, beautiful TIG welds she saw on Instagram.

She set herself an ambitious goal: to become one of the best TIG welders in the world.

The name “Stilettos and Steel Toes” connects two sides of her life—the femininity of dancing in high heels and the strength of working in steel-toe boots. It represents her belief that women do not have to choose between being feminine and working in the trades.

As Instagram’s welding community grew, Kristina began sharing her own work. The platform gave her an opportunity to learn from other welders, meet people who inspired her, and connect with customers who appreciated her craft.

Her journey has also required balance. As a mother who works from home and cares for her father, Kristina has a full schedule. Time is often limited, but working from home allows her to remain close to her family while continuing to pursue the career she loves.

For Kristina, welding offers women much more than a job. It can provide financial independence, practical skills, and the confidence to solve problems without always relying on others. It also gives mothers an opportunity to show their children what dedication and hard work look like.

Although challenges still exist, she believes the trades are becoming more welcoming to women. By openly discussing those challenges and supporting one another, the industry can continue moving forward.

Kristina’s story reminds us that strength takes many forms. It can mean mastering a difficult craft, building an independent life, caring for the people you love, and continuing to pursue your ambitions.

At BOCOMAL, we believe workwear should support women like Kristina—women who create with passion, care deeply, and have the courage to build life on their own terms.
