Choose coveralls when one-piece coverage and fewer gaps during bending or climbing are priorities. Separate shirts and pants provide more flexibility for sizing, layering, temperature changes, and replacing one damaged garment without replacing the entire set.
No. Flame-resistant clothing does not automatically qualify as arc-rated clothing. For electrical work, check the individual product’s arc rating, CAT level, applicable standard, and sewn-in label against the employer’s incident-energy assessment.
Yes, when the garments are compatible and the complete system meets the required protection level. Lightweight layers can reduce bulk, while heavier hoodies or jackets add warmth, but fabric weight alone does not determine the arc rating or CAT level.
Choose a garment that meets both the required FR or arc rating and the correct ANSI/ISEA visibility type and class. Fluorescent colors and reflective tape improve conspicuity, but appearance alone does not confirm compliance with a specific visibility requirement.
FR workwear should allow bending and reaching without pulling open, riding up, or exposing unsuitable underlayers. Avoid excessive loose fabric, and check that harnesses, tool belts, jackets, or gloves do not interfere with closures or required body coverage.
